Cover Image

My model, Chloe Halliwell, is photogenic with modeling experience. As a 17 year old female college student, my model is someone my target audience will relate to influencing them to buy the magazine. When deciding on my cover image, I looked to NME and Q magazine for inspiration. NME generally use none music related images but rely on the text and other elements to convey this. Q magazine generally use close-ups of their models looking directly into the camera.

The image of Cheryl Cole on the cover of Q is seductive, using eye contact to create a relationship with the audience. The desaturated image with saturated colour on her lips emphasises them to make the image fit a rock genre. The close-up draws your attention straight to her.

This was the original version of the image i wanted to use. I cropped it down to a close-up but found I needed to touch up a few areas in Photoshop. I used the 'clone tool' to cover up a gap in her fringe. I also used the 'healing brush tool' to remove any blemishes and glitter particles on her face. Before the shoot I applied glitter make up to her eyes but found it didn't show up as much as I would have liked so I used the 'clone tool' and the 'paint brush tool' to add more around her eyes to make them stand out. I also used the 'brush tool' in a series of short, up-and-down strokes to achieve a ‘tapered’ effect and added blocks of shine to make her lips appear more shimmery.

This is the edited version of my cover image. I think that it works for the pop-indie mixed genre as the bubblegum pink lips and glittery eyes mixed with her black clothes give this vibe.
