On The Technical side of things...

We decided that our opening scene ideas were a bit bland and would not capture the audiences attention. So we did some research and liked the idea of the extra closeup shots in this video:

This succeeds in intriguing the audience as it dosen't reveal the full band straight away.
We also liked the split screen which is seen in the video at 3.03 mins onwards. We are also going to use this idea.

Take Two!

After much deliberation and a lot of dicussion we decided take a different angle to our, still untititled, film.
The changes we've made to the characters are:

We decided the popular girl character we'd created didn't fit into 2010, British culture and also the character was too unbelievable and wouldn't make a good front man for a rock band. Therefore we have changed the character into a "Taylor Momsen" style, "out there" individual who dosen't care what others think. She's unapproachable and arrogant, she feels like she's too cool. On the other hand she is very talented and would make a great lead singer.

The rock band are still rock chicks but, they are less grunge than our orignal plan, they're actually quite popular compared to what we had in mind earlier. We felt this fits in to modern society as teenagers in rock bands are seen as cool.

We decided we would set our film in college as it was easy to access and also looked believeable as the characters are 16-18.

This is where we decided to film the scene where the posters are being put up. We also decided that the popular girl would have a locker here and that would be where we linked the scenes together.

Scene one

Rock band playing

Miss Nothing- The Pretty Reckless.

(25-30 seconds cutting between with popular girl walking into school)

Band stop playing abruptly (Chesky cuts performance)

Chesky; Look guys this just isn’t working

Daisy; But we sound really tight?

Chesky; We have this massive chance, the battle of the bands in two weeks but we need a singer

Becky; Yeah we sound good but I’ve gotta agree

Amy; The other bands will have an edge over us if we don’t have a singer

Chesky; Well the posters are up and the auditions are at dinner, we’ve just got to pray someone awesome turns up.

Scene Two

Popular girls looking at poster

Megan; What is that on my locker?!

Siobhan; (takes poster off the locker ) Urgh who would actually go to this? (Hands poster to Megan)

Hanna; Nobody I’d be friends with ahahaha.

Megan; *fake laugh* (Slides poster infolder) Omg I totally forgot girls, I have dance practice now

Hanna; Oh right, I thought dance was yesterday?

Megan; Yeah well , ermm, sorry girls I’ve gotta go, Love you!

(Megan rushes off, unfolds poster and looks at in thoughtfully)

Scene Three

(Queue of people waiting to audition)

(Montage of bad auditions; Bad image, Someone with a trombone,Clown )

Daisy; Well that was a waste of time

Becky; But what are we meant to do now?

Chesky; Come on guys, let’s just practise, at least we can stay real tight.

(Band moves to performance postions)

(Megan rushes in)

Megan; Is this the audition room?

Chesky; You mean the auditions for cheerleading, no.

Megan; Come on just give me a chance

Chesky; Are you actually serious?

Megan; Yeah

Chesky; Anyway auditions are over, you’re too late.

Megan; You obviously haven’t found anyone have you?

Daisy; Chesky, maybe we should give her a chance?

Chesky; Fine (hands Megan a microphone) Let’s see if you can keep up. (turns to band) Skip the intro of Miss Nothing (to Megan) you can jump straight in right?

Chesky; Okay, okay! Battle of the bands is in two weeks so you need to be here every day practising, you have to be committed so if you’re in this band, it’s serious.

Megan; I know and I will be. As longs as we get one things straight; no one can know I’m in this band...

Rock Band Poster

We decided to film the rock band putting up posters for the auditions to set the scene right from the start. We thought this would be a good opening scene as it would hook the audience. This is a mock poster we made.

Character Mindmap

These are our initial character ideas for the main two characters. These characters are established by their image so we felt it was important to portray it well.

Initial Ideas

From the very begining of our planning we decided that we would do a teen based movie as after looking at past students coursework we decide it looked more realistic if teenagers were playing teenagers. Also as we are teenagers ourselves we decided we should do about what we know well.

We have decide to do a film based on a college rock band with the main conflict being focused on the cliques within the college.

As research we watched a clip from the American movie '10 things I hate about you.'



The first two minutes of this clip really convey what we are trying to emulate and how to establish the characters well. This movie was set in an American high school but we have decided it would be more realistic to play British teenagers. We took note of how the music choice showed the contrast between the popular girls and the rock chick straight away.

We've established our two main charcters to be the popular girl and the rock and roll girl annd we are now working on a brief character outline of each girl.
