Preliminary Task...

During the preliminary task, we created the cover and contents for a college magazine. It was pretty basic to establish the essential methods of using Photoshop but it allowed me to find areas where I could improve my final coursework. I created a college based performance magazine focus on sucessful students, shows and the general music scene.
I found inspitation from NME for the colour scheme but when I added the college logo I realised I needed to use blue to tie it in. I used a long shot for my cover though I would prefer to use a CU or and XCU (extreme close-up) in the studio for my final piece as it's difficult to find text that is legible on a coloured background. I also used too many different fonts which made it appear low quality. In my final piece I will use two standard fonts to keep it professional. There is quite a lot of text but i think it works as it keeps the page busy. I think the logo blends into the background too much so I will make my logo for my final piece more prominent. The contents page doesn't tie in with the cover with the colour and font etc. The image seems randomly placed and doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the magazine. I like the letter behind the model but it's not clear. I intend to included an editors letter and a band index similar to that of NME.
